The VERIFY STEAM Integrating Indicator 5CM is designed to verify following a sterilization process that critical steam sterilization parameters were met. The 2-inch long Type 5 Integrating Indicator fits where other longer chemical indicators do not, all while meeting the stringent performance requirements of ANSI/AAMI/ISO chemical indicator standard 11140-1.

How the VERIFY STEAM Integrating Indicator 5CM Works

When exposed to a steam sterilization cycle, steam penetrates the polypropylene cover, contacting the steam-sensitive chemistry within. Exposure to steam lowers the melting point of the specially formulated chemistry. As the chemistry melts, it soaks into the wicking paper and runs up the strip, turning it dark. The CI does not reach its endpoint before the biological indicator has been inactivated.

The integrating indicator confirms that all the critical steam sterilization parameters have been met when the dark line has traveled the length of the strip and entered the “ACCEPT (OK)” area. Once the dark line has entered the “ACCEPT (OK)” area, the user can be confident that the intended sterilization conditions were met.
